On a rainy April Fools’ Day, I brought my treasures to the Kin Wellness & Support Center. Hosting my first workshop, “Nurture Your Home, Nurture Yourself,” was an honor. Sharing insights on home connection, from scents to ambiance, resonated deeply with me as a designer. From the lighting, playing music, fabrics and just inhabiting your space. Despite crafting beautiful spaces for clients, I love it, it’s my calling, I once struggled to connect with my own home. When you work a lot and travel, sometimes your home can feel foreign. If you’re going through an illness, your energy level is lower and all you want is to curl up with a blanket. You may want to hang a picture, but you just don’t have the bandwidth. I understand.
Acknowledging the challenges of balancing work and health, I emphasized the importance of finding solace in small moments and surrounding oneself with comfort and things that are meaningful to you. To infuse a sense of playfulness into the event, I distributed decorated bubbles, inspired by Shakespeare’s words: “April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.” While at the party store this big balloon caught my eye. A rainbow with stars on a cloud. This was about 4 ft high. Now I love color and am a child at heart. How could I not show up with a rainbow! Once it was seen, I couldn’t unsee it. While purchasing it I realized I had recently been listening to Maya Angelou. "Be a rainbow in someone’s cloud, be a blessing to someone." Done. It was already in my DNA, and off I went with the rainbow.
The workshop delved into various aspects of health and home design, fostering discussions on compromise and personal expression. A highlight was the creation of a refreshing simmer pot made with lemons, thyme, mint, and cinnamon sticks, which left attendees feeling inspired and empowered to transform their living spaces. So off they went with my 13-page booklet, goodies and bubbles and big smiles on their faces. Organnon's Natural Market donated all of the ingredients.

Grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Kin, an organization dedicated to well-being, I left feeling fulfilled and eager to continue helping others find comfort and joy in their homes.
